The truth is battery manufacturing has shifted over the years with there chemistries compositions and the amount of lead being used in each cell. There are many reasons why your old batteries are not responding the same way your current batteries are. Consider the following..
Are you using the boat a little more or driving it harder then before? Is your motor drawing from them a little harder the older it gets? Are there any impurities in the water you are using to replenish the batteries? Are you using pure distilled water? Is the new charger have a different charging cycle than your previous charger?
To pinpoint why you batteries are responding differently would be hard but I gave you some good points to consider.
